It will never happen to me!

Obviously, it will never happen to you….but, just case, why not take precautions?

For some reason, many lawyers just do not understand the vital importance of this type of LPA as a companion to the Property and Financial Affairs LPA.  For example, one buys the new home, but the other has the authority to move you into it! The old style Enduring Power of Attorney is similar to the Property and Financial Affairs LPA but was normal written as not coming into effect until mental capacity had been totally lost, leaving out slippery slopes and varying capacity.

Michael Schumacher the F1 legend, hit a rock whilst skiing in 2013 and hasn’t been seen in public since.  In England, his life would have been managed by the Court of Protection if he did not have Lasting Powers of Attorney in place.

Philip Lawrence, headteacher, stabbed to death outside his school.

Robin Windsor, a professional dancer who had appeared on Strictly Come Dancing died at 44.

Philip Plews only made it to 17 before being run over and killed.

Mark Pryor died at 46

Vignesh Raman was killed while cycling.

Dorothy Morgan died of neglect at 71. It might have been avoided with Lasting Powers of Attorney and well-chosen attorneys.

Liam McGinty 29, death might have been avoided with Lasting Powers of Attorney and well-chosen attorneys. If you are sectioned, it may be assumed that you are incapable of marking decisions, so an LPA attorney just might have been able to save the day.

Luke Miller 23 died of a single stab wound, an increasing common occurrence sadly.

Michael Jones, 26 died in an industrial accident.
